Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is the liquid form of natural gas obtained by cooling it to -162 °C. This process reduces the volume of natural gas by about 600 times and makes it easier to transport.
LNG transportation tanks are designed to ensure safe and efficient transportation of LNG. The tanks are made of special materials to maintain the low temperature of the LNG and prevent it from leaking into the environment.
LNG transportation tanks are of three main types:
- Closed type tanks: These tanks are covered with an insulating layer that surrounds the LNG. The insulation layer helps to maintain the low temperature of the LNG.
- Open type tanks: These tanks are covered with a layer of atmospheric gas surrounding the LNG. The atmospheric gas layer helps prevent excessive vaporization of the LNG.
- Tubular tanks: These tanks consist of cylindrical containers that contain the LNG. Tubular tanks are smaller and take up less space than other types of tanks.
LNG transportation tanks are available in different sizes and capacities. The size and capacity of the tanks are determined by the amount of LNG to be transported.
LNG transportation tanks can be transported by sea, land and air. Sea transportation is the most common method of transportation of LNG. Land transportation is used to transport LNG for shorter distances. Air transportation is used to transport LNG for very short distances.
LNG transportation tanks are an environmentally friendly form of transportation. LNG causes less greenhouse gas emissions than conventional fuels.
LNG transportation tanks have an important role in the global energy sector. LNG is used as a power source for power plants, industrial plants and residences in many parts of the world.
